What is wrong with my CDs that I burn, when only I can read them?
It could be a few different things - try these solutions:
It could be the software. To rule this out, download and install a program called RecordNow MAX [found at Webattack]. It comes with a 30-day free trial - enough to help resolve this problem.
Try using another media. For example, people have reported problems with Verbatim Super Azo, but not with Verbatim DataLife.
You might be "leaving the session open" after burning. You can leave the CD open, but you must close the session. It's possible that Nero burns in the "image recorder" instead of the CDR. In Nero, click "Recorder / Choose Recorder" and select your physical burner instead of the image recorder. Query the disk in Nero to see if the tracks are there and the mode field says (?MB). If this is the case, this could be a buffer underrun. The Table of Contents (TOC) was properly burned, and then the burning crashed. This could be a bad media / bad reader / scratched CD problem.
One more thing you can check is to see if it's using the UDF packet-writing format. In Roxio, this would be using DirectCD. UDF has been known to cause data problems, especially if you try to install the UDF reader on an OS that already has a built-in reader (like in Windows 2k/XP). Most CD creation software packages have an update patch to fix many of these compatabilities, and Nero 5.5 had one such patch on its Web site.
